Increase in Covid19 Case : Maharashtra re-introduced mask
Due to a surge in the covid cases in the last few days, Maharashtra has reintroduced compulsory masking in public, except in open spaces. Over 1,000-plus cases were recorded in Maharashtra for the third day on June 3.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope speaking to media said, there has been some increase in positive cases in limited cluster areas like Mumbai, Pune, Thane, & Palghar districts, leading to the hike in India's active cases. Thus, we appeal to the public to wear masks in areas of surge.
Masks should be worn in closed spaces like buses, schools, railways, and offices. This is not mandatory, therefore no fine is imposed. But I appeal to the Maharashtra public to wear masks, said Rajesh Tope.
The state government's announcement is part of a strategic plan to contain the surge and keep hospitalisation to a minimum
Long-term impact might not be much right now. Number of cases might increase which doesn't matter much as RNA virus keeps mutating. Increased severity &death toll matters, which is unlikely, confirms Dr Sanjay Rai, Professor at Centre for Community Medicine dept at AIIMS, Delhi speaking to ANI.
The situation in our country can be considered great, keeping in mind the second & third waves of #COVID19... these types of viruses don't end quickly& fluctuations will keep happening. We should move toward normalcy, said the AIIMS Professor.
